About the Book
When Miami bookseller Abe Jacobs is diagnosed with a rare disease, he returns to the Ahkwesáhsne Reservation in New York where he was born to undergo a healing at the hands of his great uncle. “Back on the Rez,” Abe undergoes a revelatory journey, confronting parts of himself he’s hidden ever since he left home, and learning to cultivate hope in the darkest times. With a voice as articulate as Ocean Vuong’s Little Dog, and as cracklingly irreverent as Holden Caulfield, Old School Indian delivers a rambunctious, refined, and altogether singular exploration of family secrets, of heritage and language preserved and forgotten, and of our capacities for healing and catharsis.
