Aanchal Vashistha's Campaign Launch Party

On July 12, 2026, Aanchal Vashistha will officially launch her campaign for Ward 10 Spadina-Fort York City Councillor, a date she chose deliberately.

It marks ten years since she lost her twin brother, Tushar, to suicide: a young man who, by every outward measure, was thriving, yet was quietly disconnected in ways no one around him recognized in time. That loss became the defining force in Aanchal’s life, and it is the reason she is stepping into public service now.

July 12 also marks ten years of the work Aanchal built in response to that grief. In the decade since, she founded Reach Out Together, a canadian mental health non-profit serving people who can’t afford care, and has personally sat with hundreds of individuals through their darkest moments. She has trained others to recognize the quiet signs of isolation, the ones that so often go unseen. What began as an act of survival became a decade-long commitment to making sure no one else falls through the cracks the way Tushar did.

Aanchal is running for City Councillor because she has seen up close what happens when people are surrounded by others but still feel utterly alone and because she believes the systems meant to support Ward 10 residents are failing them in the same way.

Her campaign, built around the idea of “Choosing Forward,” is a continuation of the work she has already spent ten years doing: showing up, building real connection, and fixing the systems that shape welfare, before it’s too late.
