AAHGS Greater Richmond Chapter 15th Year Anniversary

The Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS) Greater Richmond, Virginia Chapter has grown from an initial membership of twenty-two to a vibrant and active membership of one hundred twenty-five. This remarkable growth is both a cause for pride and a moment worthy of recognition and celebration.

Our journey began in 2010 with the generous support of the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia (BHMVA), where our early meetings were held in the basement of their original location. It is both fitting and meaningful that we will celebrate this milestone anniversary at the Museum’s beautifully renovated facility. The mission of the BHMVA—to share, interpret, preserve, exhibit, and commemorate the rich history and culture of African Americans throughout Virginia and beyond—beautifully aligns with our chapter’s mission and vision. As we look toward the future, we are excited about strengthening our partnership with the Museum through shared programming and community engagement.

Our celebration will take place on December 14, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, in collaboration with the Richmond Branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH). The event will feature a hors d’oeuvres reception, guest speaker, chapter awards, and a tribute to Dr. Carter G. Woodson in honor of his legacy. Ticket sales are set at $40.00 per person.
