A11Y BCN (Accessibility Barcelona) September Meetup
About this Event
A11Y BCN (Accessibility Barcelona) September Meetup
Hey there! Join us for the first A11Y BCN meetup — an evening for Barcelona’s accessibility community to connect, exchange ideas, and learn from each other.
For our first meetup, Marco will present “The Accessibility Expert Is Not Coming,” exploring how product teams can start making meaningful accessibility improvements without waiting for an accessibility expert.
Drawing on his experience as an iOS developer, Marco will share practical examples from mobile development, real-world challenges and product trade-offs, and ways teams can make accessibility part of their everyday work.
No matter whether you work in accessibility, design, development, product, or are simply interested in creating more inclusive digital experiences — you’re very welcome to join us.
The Accessibility Expert Is Not Coming
“We need an accessibility expert.”
How often does that sentence become an alibi for not doing anything?
Accessibility expertise is incredibly valuable, but waiting for an expert shouldn’t be a prerequisite for building a more accessible product. Especially on mobile, where Android and iOS provide powerful accessibility frameworks and assistive technologies that developers can leverage from day one.
This talk is about what happens when we stop using “we’re not accessibility experts” as a reason to wait. Drawing on real-world experience from digital banking, I’ll share practical examples, challenges, product trade-offs, and lessons learned while making accessibility part of everyday development.
You don’t need to be an accessibility expert to start. You just need to stop waiting for one.
