The Library of Esoterica & the Splendourists Society present A Winter Solstice Celebration with Liberate Elemental Forces & Jessica Hundley
About this Event

One the eve of the winter solstice, please join us for a special talk and musical performance. Library of Esoterica Editor Jessica Hundley will explore the ways this sacred moment of the year is expressed and celebrated in esoteric traditions around the world. We'll discuss the relevance of the solstice astrologically, as well as the symbology of the solstice in Tarot and the day's relevance within a variety of global myths and rituals.
The conversation will be followed by live music from Los Angeles' Liberate Elemental Forces performing a night raga in honor of the winter solstice and the ushering in of the soul’s descent into the heart to meet the Self.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Jessica Hundley is an author, filmmaker and journalist. She has written for the likes of Vogue, Rolling Stone, and The New York Times, and has authored books on artists including actor Dennis Hopper, director David Lynch, and musician Gram Parsons. Hundley often explores the counterculture in her work, with a focus on metaphysics, psychedelia, and magic. She is Author and Editor of Taschen's The Library of Esoterica a multi-volume encyclopedia series that explores how centuries of artists have given form to mysticism, translating the arcane and the obscure into enduring, visionary works of art. Each subject is showcased through both modern and archival imagery culled from private collectors, libraries, and museums around the globe. The result forms an inclusive visual history, a study of our primal pull to dream and nightmare, and the creative ways we strive to connect to the divine.

Liberate Elemental Forces is an Indian classical/experimental music collective from the eastside of Los Angeles. Instrumentation is varied but centered on sitar, tabla and synthesizer while incorporating guitar, swarmandal, flute, tanpura and vocals to create their unique Indo-cosmic sound.

The music is based on the fundamental architecture of classical Indian ragas and rhythm cycles but also fuses the meditative aspects of spiritual jazz and kosmiche musik.

The core of the group has trained in both LA and Kolkata with their guru Pandit Shashanka Bakshi (a world renowned tabla master who played with greats like Ravi Shankar and Nikhil Banerjee).

This event will be held in the PRS Library. Attendance is limited to 50. All proceeds are being donated by the artist to PRS. We appreciate all of your support!
