About this Event

Charles Gent

Born in North Adelaide in 1960 and brought up in Clearview, Charles Gent attended schools in Walkerville and Hackney. While studying Arts and evading Law at the University of Adelaide, he wrote for the student newspaper On Dit. After extricating himself from public service employment, he went to Flinders University in 1988 to work as a writer and editor in the University’s publications office, remaining there until 2016. His long-standing interest in wine led to the publication of Mixed Dozen: the story of Australian winemaking from 1788 (Duffy and Snellgrove, 2003). He subsequently wrote columns on wine for the Adelaide Review until its demise in 2020. He continues to write for Winestate magazine and other publications and has contributed entries on Max Schubert and David Wynn to the Australian Dictionary of Biography.
