About this Event
A TASTE OF VAMPIRE MOVIES AROUND THE WORLD
With roots going back to Ancient Greece and Asian folklore, the vampire captivated the human imagination like never before with the arrival of the novel Dracula and the subsequent birth of cinema. The evolution of the terrifying and sometimes seductive monster in film and television will be explored through common themes and trends over the years in countries ranging from the U.S. and U.K. to France to Hong Kong, touching on everything from slapstick comedy to searing social commentary along the way in this perfect occasion to get into the Halloween spirit.
Ticket price: $12 (in person & online event)
This presentation will be recorded and shared with online attendees for up to 2 weeks following the event. The recording will be emailed to you a few days after the scheduled event.

Nathaniel Thompson was first bitten by vampire movie mania as a young child thanks to viewings of Kiss of the Vampire and Dracula: Prince of Darkness in a single weekend. An avid film viewer, he spread his enthusiasm for the horror genre with a high school fanzine, Movies from Beyond the Grave, and in early 1998 he launched one of the earliest comprehensive review websites devoted to genre films, Mondo Digital (which continues to this day). That site also served as the springboard for his four-book DVD Delirium series for FAB Press, a survey of notable home video releases around the world with a focus on horror and art house cinema. For 15 years he was a regular contributing writer for Turner Classic Movies and a weekly contributor to FilmStruck during its run from 2016 to 2018. He has written regularly for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and has worked behind the scenes at every Oscar ceremony during that period, so he’s worn more than his share of tuxedoes.
Over the years Nathaniel has conducted interviews with numerous genre figures including Jean Rollin, David F. Friedman, Jack Hill, and Herschell Gordon Lewis. An avid connoisseur and collector of film scores, he has also interviewed and profiled such composers as Pino Donaggio, Lalo Schifrin, John Cacavas, Carter Burwell, Christopher Young, and Patrick Doyle. He has presented numerous film screenings and conducted Q&As with everyone from Radley Metzger and Pia Zadora to Jeff Bridges and Julie Andrews, and his writing can also be found in multiple issues of the much-missed Video Watchdog and the FabPress compendium, Fear Without Frontiers: Horror Cinema Across the Globe. He currently resides in Los Angeles and still tries to take in as many films on the big screen as possible.
