Join us in poetic anticipation of All Hallow’s Eve
with authors Emily August, Julie Gard,
Michelle Matthees, and Su Love.
Now we approach the liminal time when borders between worlds and words thin and merge, when otherness shimmers. Gather with authors Emily August, Julie Gard, and Michelle Matthees, in poetic conversation with Su Love for a spirited evening at Zenith Bookstore on Oct. 29. On offer are yummy refreshments, mingling, a poetry reading, and books for sale.
• Oct. 29, 7 – 8 p.m., come early for refreshments
• Zenith Bookstore
• 318 N. Central Avenue, Duluth, Minn.
This event is free admission and everyone is welcome.
Love is thrilled to bring together these poets she has long admired to highlight her current book project about nuclear testing, power, and waste in Minnesota. Love is a fiscal year 2026 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
August examines themes of intergenerational trauma, domestic violence, and institutional harm in her book The Punishments Must Be a School. Gard mines life’s pedantic, transcendent rhythms in I Think I Know You, winner of the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award and a Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award finalist. Matthees writes about travel and faith in her recent collection Solo and her book Complicated Warding illustrates institutionalization at the turn of the last century.
