A SPELL FOR WINTER : An Original Musical for Basic Wizards.SEEKING SINGERS and ACTORS who BELIEVE in MAGIC.
A SPELL FOR WINTER is an original musical written by local Athens artists. This production will be its world premiere. It is a holiday musical from another world.
SHOW DATES: December 6th, 7th, 8th -- 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th
REHEARSALS : Monday-Friday 630p - 930p (There may be occasional weekend rehearsals as needed.)
GENERAL AUDITIONS
Prepare a vocal piece of less than one minute that you are comfortable singing acapella.
Dress for movement and dance.
Bring a COMPLETE calendar with all conflicts between now and December 15th.
CALLBACKS will include cold readings from the script and more intensive vocal work.
SYNOPSIS
Winter is attending the Solacer Wynd School of Technical Magic and Tavern Management, and she has a problem. It’s one of the least impressive schools in town, and she is one night away from flunking out completely. Unlike every other wizard attending, she cannot cast a single spell. Before the night is over, she must face her past, a ghost, her idiot classmates, her obsequious familiar, and the power of the night itself. It’s Fifth Turn, the solstice, the night when magic flows and sings with more power than any other night. If she can’t cast a spell tonight, she never will.
CHARACTERS
All characters are available to any identity.
LEADS
Winter - main character. Actor must provoke empathy from the audience while being unlikable.
Kilometer Fox - her familiar. Actor must be deeply annoying but an excellent dancer.
The Ghost - A specter from the past with an agenda.
Wizard Students
Helona - delightfully mean
Marwick - hopelessly stupid
Casimir - desperately sweet
Venn - upsettingly normal
Professor Zed Mandrake - a figure of immense dignity and inebriation
ENSEMBLE
Other Wizard Students - All of these characters have solo spoken and sung lines.
TANIS - deeply mysterious
ARC - abundantly heroic
BOGLORD - it’s pronounced ‘bahg-lurd’.
NATALIE - mystically forgettable
