On July 11, join us as The Voice of Black Cincinnati presents The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century Curated Experience at the Cincinnati Art Museum from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Guests are warmly invited to partake in the free festivities. The event will include heavy hors d’oeuvres, local vendors, a cash bar, trivia, best hip-hop dressed recognition, and our notorious swag bags.
Admission to Cincinnati Art Museum, The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century, and the Soulful Soiree Curated Experience is free.
About The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century
The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century showcases more than 90 works of art by some of today’s most important and celebrated artists —such as Roberto Lugo, Carrie Mae Weems, William Cordova, Hassan Hajjaj and Hank Willis Thomas–and fashion brands, with looks from Gucci, Cross Colours and Vivienne Westwood. A range of music ephemera will also be on display.
Rooted in hip-hop's origins in the mid-1970s as a cultural expression of Black, Latinx, and Afro-Latinx youth, The Culture explores the transformation of contemporary art and material culture through the collision of hip-hop, technology, and the marketplace.
About the Curator
Jason Rawls, EdD, is an assistant professor of hip-hop at Ohio State University, leading the team that is creating a hip-hop studies program in its School of Music and Department of African American & African Studies. Dr. Rawls–featured in a hip-hop exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History–is also known for his music production work with artists like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Beastie Boys. He is a published author and DJ (aka J. Rawls). Before OSU, Dr. Rawls helped develop the first hip-hop-based education program at Ohio University, a college of education.

Parking
Parking is free in Museum lots, and accessible parking is available. The front entrance allows wheelchair and stroller entry. Bike Racks are available outside the Main Entrance of the Art Museum. You can go ahead and use Cincinnati METRO.
