About The Tamir Rice Memorial Gazebo
Ten years ago, on November 22, 2014, 12-year-old Tamir Rice was killed by a Cleveland police officer. In 2016, the gazebo near which Tamir was killed was slated for demolition and erasure. Thanks to the tireless advocacy of Tamir’s mother, Samaria Rice, the structure was preserved and later entrusted to artist and Rebuild’s Executive Director, Theaster Gates. Since then, Rebuild Foundation has served as its steward, commissioning artists to engage the memorial as a charged site of remembrance, and an ongoing commitment to and honor of Tamir’s legacy.
About The Tamir Rice Foundation
The Tamir Rice Foundation invests in the growth and enrichment of all children through after-school programs in the arts and Afrocentric culture, allowing them to express their truth and improve their lives as they grow into young adults.
