A Soccer + Basketball Performance Experience with Steve Fell & Trent Salo
About this Event
What does it actually take to build an athlete who can perform at a higher level — and keep performing?
KTLYST Athlete Lab is opening its doors for a special Soccer + Basketball Performance Experience bringing athletes, parents and coaches inside the conversations, assessments and training strategies normally associated with high-performance sport.
This isn't a combine. It isn't a camp. And it isn't an afternoon of putting athletes through a hard workout just to make them tired.
It's an opportunity to learn how high-level performance professionals think about developing athletes — and how those same principles can be applied to youth, high school and college athletes here in Northeast Florida.
Leading the event will be two keynote speakers whose careers have taken them to the highest levels of basketball and soccer:
STEVE FELL, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS, XPS
USMNT Performance Coach | Head of Performance, Sporting Club Jacksonville
Steve is a Board-Certified Sports Physical Therapist and performance coach specializing in the treatment and athletic development of soccer players.
Since 2022, he has served as a Performance Coach for the Senior U.S. Men's National Team, supporting physical preparation for international competition including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, CONCACAF Nations League, Gold Cup and Copa América.
His professional soccer experience spans more than 200 matches and includes performance roles with the Houston Dynamo, Phoenix Rising FC and U.S. Soccer Federation.
Steve now serves as Head of Performance for Sporting Club Jacksonville, overseeing athletic performance across its professional and developmental teams while also helping support the broader Sporting JAX soccer ecosystem here in Northeast Florida.
His work lives at the intersection of performance, physical preparation, injury prevention and return to play — with one central question:
What does this athlete's sport demand, and how do we prepare their body to meet those demands?
TRENT SALO, DPT
Founder, The Tendon Lab | Former NBA Vice President of Player Health & Performance
Trent has spent more than a decade working inside elite basketball performance, rehabilitation and player health.
His career has included serving in a dual role as an athletic performance coach and physical therapist with the Detroit Pistons, where he both designed weight-room programming and guided athletes through rehabilitation, before eventually serving as Vice President of Player Health & Performance for the Charlotte Hornets.
Today, Trent is the founder of The Tendon Lab, a concierge practice focused exclusively on Achilles and patellar tendon health and performance. His approach combines advanced assessment—including ultrasound tissue characterization and force-plate testing—with progressive, individualized management designed to bridge the gap between an athlete's current capacity and what their sport demands.
He is also pursuing his PhD(s) in Tendon Health in Basketball Athletes through the University of Copenhagen.
Trent brings a perspective that is especially relevant to basketball athletes:
How do we develop more explosive athletes while also building the physical capacity to tolerate the forces that jumping, sprinting, cutting and competing repeatedly place on the body?
THIS WON'T JUST BE TWO PEOPLE TALKING AT YOU.
Steve and Trent will open the event as our featured keynote speakers, but then we're breaking out into smaller groups throughout KTLYST's 10,000-square-foot facility.
Athletes and parents will have opportunities to interact with our performance team, ask questions, see how we assess and train different physical qualities, and better understand how the pieces of athletic development actually fit together.
We'll explore topics including:
STRENGTH
Building the physical foundation athletes need to produce and absorb force.
SPEED + AGILITY
Acceleration, multidirectional movement, change of direction and becoming more efficient moving through space.
POWER + EXPLOSIVENESS
Developing the ability to express strength quickly—whether that's the first few steps to the ball or getting off the floor.
DURABILITY
Preparing muscles, tendons and joints for the repeated demands of practices, games, tournaments and long seasons.
TESTING + ASSESSMENT
Using objective information to better understand an athlete's strengths, asymmetries and opportunities for development.
RECOVERY + RETURN TO PERFORMANCE
Understanding that recovery, rehabilitation and performance shouldn't exist as completely separate worlds.
And most importantly, we'll talk about how those qualities come together for the individual athlete in front of us.
MEET THE KTLYST PERFORMANCE TEAM
Steve and Trent will be joined throughout the event by members of the KTLYST Athlete Lab coaching team, including:
Robert Reeves
KTLYST Co-Owner + Lead Performance Specialist
Baylee Bishop
Performance Specialist | USA Weightlifting Level 2
Bethany Zwolinski
KTLYST Performance Coach
John Fiorenza
KTLYST Coach | Former Frontier League Professional Baseball Player
Jeremy Taylor
KTLYST Co-Owner + Performance Specialist
Together, our staff works with athletes across sports and ages inside the KTLYST Athlete Lab, where strength, speed, movement, testing, skill development and recovery are treated as pieces of the same development process.
FOR ATHLETES AND PARENTS.
One of the things we want to make different about this event is that parents are part of the conversation.
Your athlete doesn't need another person simply telling them to "work harder."
As athletes progress, the questions become more specific.
What actually makes them faster?
Where does explosiveness come from?
How strong is strong enough?
Why does one athlete respond differently than another?
How do we increase workload without constantly breaking down?
What should they be doing in the weight room during their competitive season?
What does recovery actually look like?
And how do strength coaches, sport coaches, physical therapists and parents work together instead of pulling an athlete in five different directions?
Those are the conversations we want to have.
COME EXPERIENCE THE ATHLETE LAB.
Walk through the facility.
Meet the people behind the programming.
See the technology.
Ask questions.
Learn how we approach strength, speed, power, movement, durability and recovery.
And leave with a better understanding of what your athlete needs next — not simply what everyone else is doing.
Whether your athlete is beginning to take their sport seriously, competing at the club or high-school level, preparing for college, or already playing at a high level, the principles remain the same:
Understand the athlete.
Understand the demands.
Find the gaps.
Build what they need.
