The Catawba Island Historical Society is sponsoring “A Short History of Local Pleasure Boating” by Dr. Richard Thomas on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 4-5pm at Ida Rupp Public Library.
In this free lecture, Dr. Thomas will share a fast-paced and fun look at all things boating, from powerboats to sailboats, from Matthews to Lyman, from indigenous tribal canoes to modern rumrunners, and much more.
Dr. Thomas is a Catawba Island Historical Society Board of Trustee and Chief Designer for the Catawba Island History Museum at Union Chapel.
