A Service of Word based on Ezekiel 1:25-3:10 Wanting to fit in and following Jesus are two things that often seem to be at odds with each other. Often, when we see real wrongs, hurting and brokenness in the world, we feel compelled to act, but society answers that suffering is inevitable. So what to we do? Do we just go along with society, or do we stand up for the oppressed, the blind, and the prisoners? And how does Ezekiel’s commissioning help us to answer God’s call for us?
Questions to Ponder:
Read Ezekiel 1:25–3:10. What stands out to you the most in this interchange between God and Ezekiel? What does God list as reasons for being upset with Israel? Why would these things have been issues?
Ezekiel 3:1–10 contains God’s command to Ezekiel to eat the scroll of God’s Word. God explains that Ezekiel will be sent to a people who will understand his words but reject what he says. How does God prepare Ezekiel for this mission? In what ways do you sense that Christ has prepared you for a similar mission among believers?
Have you ever been among those who had a “hard forehead and stubborn heart”? Whom did God send to speak to you? What caused you to finally listen?
