Daniel Monroy Cuevas is a filmmaker and artist born in Mexico. He studied audiovisual arts in Guadalajara as well as cinema at the Vancouver Film School in Canada. Monroy Cuevas’s work has been exhibited widely and his most recent exhibitions include Sabemos como es el fuego (2018) at ESPAC in México City; Espectador en el Vacío (2015) at Galería Arredondo/Arozarena in Mexico City; A Waiting Search (2012) in the Museum of Oriental Art in Turin, Italy as part of the project LIDO. Monroy Cuevas’s work draws on film, analogue technologies, and pen and paper, while considering not only the cultural space in which we reside, but the influential figures and moments that brought us here.
Daniel Monroy Cuevas es un cineasta y artista nacido en México. Estudió artes audiovisuales en Guadalajara, así como Cine en la Escuela de Cine de Vancouver en Canadá. La obra de Monroy Cuevas ha sido exhibida ampliamente y sus más recientes exposiciones incluyen Sabemos cómo es el fuego (2018) en ESPAC en la Ciudad de México; Espectador en el Vacío (2015) en Galería Arredondo/Arozarena en la Ciudad de México; A Waiting Search (2012) en el Museo de Arte Oriental de Turín, Italia como parte del proyecto LIDO. La obra de Monroy Cuevas se basa en el cine, las tecnologías análogas, y la pluma y el papel, al tiempo que considera no solo el espacio cultural en el que residimos, sino las figuras y momentos influyentes que nos trajeron hasta aquí.

Save the date! The Lit & Luz Festival returns November 1-6, 2021. Through this year’s theme, “Structure,” participants will consider the physical structures that house us, political and societal structures that surround us, and much more.
The 2021 Chicago festival will be hybrid and feature both virtual and in-person programs including readings, conversations, and workshops. We’re excited to announce that the one-and-only Live Magazine Show will be presented in partnership with the University of Chicago’s Logan Center for the Arts.
