A Return to Correspondence

There's something we've lost in a world of constant texting and abbreviated exchanges — and A Return to Correspondence is an invitation to find it again.

This is a talk and hands-on experience devoted entirely to the art of the handwritten letter. Though we're more connected than ever, an underlying disconnection remains, and this gathering is a chance to slow down and rediscover what it means to write with attention — why receiving a letter still carries such emotional weight, and how a little more presence changes everything. Along the way, we'll share readings of beautiful historical letters and explore the language and symbolism of wax seals, featuring museum-quality pieces by Kathryn Hastings and Co.

Then, you'll create one of your own. Guests are guided through the full art of letter-making, start to finish: writing a letter by hand on bespoke stationery printed on a vintage press from Centralia Stationery Co., crafting an envelope from beautiful Morris & Co. paper, and closing it with a wax seal you select and pour yourself — a small, satisfying ceremony that makes the letter truly your own.

You'll leave with a letter you made, a deeper appreciation for the written word, and a renewed sense of what it means to reach someone through paper instead of a screen.
