We are pleased to present the winner of our 2024 Juried Art Exhibition artist, Brittany Haas! Brittany was selected as our Juror's Choice, meaning her work stood out amongst the rest as being especially unique and skilled. As a recipient of this award, Brittany received the opportunity to have her own solo art show in our gallery.Brittany Hass is a graphic designer by day, and an analog artist by the evenings and weekends. Five years ago, she stumbled into the Botanical Art and Illustration program at Denver Botanic Gardens, hoping for some non-computer creative outlets. The program requires mastery of four core mediums: graphite, pen and ink, watercolor, and colored pencil. It also allows for exploration of additional mediums such as carbon dust, gouache, printmaking, and more.
Brittany grew up in Montana and Washington states before landing in Colorado to establish her family and career. Gardening has always been a source of wonder, excitement, frustration, and humility. The plants depicted in this collection were collected within 2024 from Brittany’s own suburban yard, the Denver Botanic Gardens, and friends’ and neighbors’ yards across the Denver area. Most of them are found in one form or another in cultivated gardens across the West and will hopefully spark joy for gardeners all over! Real-life details like dew drops, insects, and myriad textures reward the careful observer.
