'A Place Apart' brings together the poetic universes of Ane Vester and Lucile Bertrand. The exhibition explores themes of memory, space, homeliness and homelessness.Queens Brussels cordially invites you to the opening of 'A Place Apart' on Sunday 28 September at 1 pm in the presence of the artists.
For the first time, Ane Vester will display her archive of colour samples. These samples evoke everyday objects and the subjective recollections associated with them. Visitors are invited to (re)discover the house and the reminiscences of its former occupants. Vester's body of work reflects on colour, revealing that it is always perceived differently and influenced by memories, combinations and juxtapositions.
Memory is also central to Lucile Bertrand's work. Although her works have an undeniable poetic quality, they often refer to wars and violent conflicts. Bertrand's works raise questions about spatiality and the domestic, as well as the concept of being 'apart from home’.
The works of both Lucile Bertrand and Ane Vester demand subtle attention. They demand attention for the unusual building and the traces of its past; for being in space and being spaceless; for the devastating present and past.
A Place Apart will be on view at Queens Brussels until 18 October.
Open on Fridays and Saturdays from 11am to 6pm and by appointment.
