About this Event

Timothy Garton Ash is the author of eleven books of contemporary history and political writing which have explored many facets of the history of Europe over the last half-century. They include , his unique account of investigating his own Stasi file. He is Professor of European Studies at Oxford University and writes a column for the Guardian on European and international affairs. Awards he has received for his writings include the International Charlemagne Prize, for services to European unity. His latest book, , has just been published.

Lindsey Hilsum is Channel 4 News' International Editor and the author of , which won the 2019 James Tait Black Prize for biography. Recently she has reported on the war in Ukraine, and the return of the Taliban in Afghanistan. She has covered the major conflicts and refugee movements of the past three decades, including Syria, Iraq, Kosovo and Rwanda, winning many awards. She is a regular contributor to newspapers and literary journals.
