A performance and clowning workshop
About this Event
In this intensive workshop, we will clown and experiment with how bodies and objects collide and collapse to organise ways of seeing. Through task-based prompts, material collaboration, and the clown apparatus, we will seek to understand intimacy in performance and examine the conditions through which desire manifests in collective encounters. This will be an opportunity to share practice and meet fellow practitioners. Let’s get together and play!
This workshop is for people ages 18+ and no prior experience is required. Just an open perspective!
About
Yifei Ma is a visual-led performance practitioner. Her practice works through miniature environments such as doll's house toys, playing with scale to explore gaze and intimacy. In her work LOOK, she uses miniature worlds to examine fetishisation over Asian female bodies and decolonise ways of seeing. LOOK was presented as part of the SPRINT at CPT and Theatre Deli. https://yifeima.wixsite.com/yifeima
Camden Barrett is a theatre and performance practitioner. Their work and facilitation practice troubles frameworks of identity, architecture, and language, through clowning and collaborative play. Their work, this is a public square, will be performed at Chisenhale Dance Space on the 27th and 28th of August. camdenbarrett.com.
Flora Lester is a multidisciplinary theatre artist and performer working across devised theatre, movement, and experimental performance. Her practice explores free improvisation, the body, emotion, material, and transformation, using movement and material experimentation as ways of thinking and creating. Influenced by club culture, performance art, and queer aesthetics, Flora is interested in how bodies and everyday materials can shift, expand and transform through play and performance.
