Join us at The Morticians Den located on the grounds of the haunted Victoria's Black Swan Inn for a fascinating journey through the history of embalming and its profound impact on modern funeral services. This presentation explores the origins of embalming practices in ancient civilizations, the development of preservation techniques through the centuries, and the dramatic rise of embalming during the American Civil War.
Learn how battlefield deaths created a need for preserving and transporting fallen soldiers home to their families, leading to the widespread acceptance of embalming across the United States. The discussion will also examine the pivotal role of President Abraham Lincoln's funeral in 1865, we will also discuss other famous funerals and funeral homes. During this event guests will be able to handle authentic civil war era mourning jewelry, vintage embalming instruments, machines and antique embalming fluid bottles along with a 1960's era embalming table. This is an intimate event limited to 12 tickets. Refreshing craft tea ( Non alcoholic option) and craft beer ( 21 an over only ) will be provided.
