This event will be held upstairs and is free to attend.
Justin Lacour lives in New Orleans with his wife and three children, where he edits Trampoline: A Journal of Poetry. He is the author of five chapbooks of poems, including Hulk Church (Belle Point 2023), This Fire (Ursus Americanus 2023), and Counting the Seconds Til Dinner (Lucky Bean 2023).
Cate Root is a poet in New Orleans. She moved here at 23 for no good reason and with no named ambitions. In nearly twenty years, she has found community with former NOLAFugees correspondents, her cohort at UNO’s MFA program, journalists in a precarious industry, socialists who believe in a better world, and poets. She was a driving force behind Dogfish, and her new reading series is called ALOUD. You can find more of her work at cateroot.online.
Lauren Burgess is a poet and essayist from Louisiana. She received her MFA from Louisiana State University where she served as poetry editor of New Delta Review. Her work has appeared in Dream Pop, Bodega, Trampoline, and A Velvet Giant, among others. She received the Kent Grant Award for Literary Nonfiction, selected by Megan Volpert, and the Robert Penn Warren Award for Poetry, selected by Eléna Rivera, for her manuscript CAGE. She has been nominated for two Pushcart Prizes and is currently working towards her Masters in Library Science. She wants you all to get a library card tomorrow.
M.A. Nicholson is a New Orleans poet, editor, educator, journalist, and a co-founder of LMNL Arts. An alumna of Loyola University and a M.F.A. graduate from the University of New Orleans—where she served as Associate Poetry Editor for Bayou Magazine—M.A. was the recipient of the 2021 Andrea-Saunders Gereighty Academy of American Poets Award and has work featured in Best New Poets 2022. Her debut poetry collection Around the Gate (Word Works Books, 2024) was selected by judge Carolyne Wright for the 2023 Hilary Tham Capital Collection prize.
