About this Event
In a world of ever increasing noise and stimulation, the tradition of oral storytelling demands stillness, presence, attention, and courage. Stillness, presence, and attention to hear what the story has to say, and courage to follow through on what you've heard.
Before listening to a story, our ancestors would first identify a threshold they were waiting to cross. What kind of transformation or initiation were they seeking in their lives?
Then, crowded around a campfire, they would listen to a story that had endured through generations and generations. The stories that survived were the ones that contained deep insights about inner human archetypes, knowledge of how to act when things are falling apart, and bold possibilities of how one can be. Through stories, they found wisdom, transformation, healing, and inspiration.
In this event, we will do the same. You will have space to search for thresholds in your life that you are wanting to cross. You will search within for what is happening for you. Then we will digest a mythic story together. We'll listen and share what we heard, what it evoked in us, and how we’ll continue to carry it forward. Each person will bring the story to life in their own unique way.
"If you listen carefully, at the end you'll be someone else." — The Mahābhārata
Price: $25 early bird / $30 at the door
The event will be from 7:30-9:30pm. Doors will close at 7:40pm. Please arrive on-time as we will not be able to let people in once we begin.
Daway first heard a transformational mythic story told in the woods of Vermont while on a vision quest. Sitting around a campfire before setting out for four solo days without food, the different stories that were told inspired him, grounded him, and twisted his stomach in knots as he confronted how he, as much as he didn’t want to admit it, was like some of their characters. He has since shared the power of storytelling at communities like Findhorn and Tamera in Europe and all over the West Coast. He delights in the unexpected lessons people draw from them and how each story lives a new life depending on the listener.
