As one of the most important Chinese-language films in recent years, Qiu Jiongjiong‘s A New Old Play （《椒麻堂会》）has gone through more than 40 film festivals since it won the Locarno International Film Festival Special Jury Award in 2021. On Saturday, February 11th at 18:00, A New Old Play will have its Perth premiere at The Backlot Perth.Film Synopsis:
Qiu Fu, a leading clown-role actor in 20th-century Sichuan opera, departs this world and must reluctantly set off for the Ghost City. Along the way, he meets old friends. As they recall the past, earthly scenes creep into the mists of the Netherworld. As Qu relives his vivid memories one last time before entering the afterlife, fifty years of art, struggle and love play out against the background of 20th-century China’s tumultuous history.
