A Navajo Weaver's Journey
Roy will share with you his journey being a shepherd, living on the land, raising the fiber, processing it, dyeing it with plants/insect dyes, setting/dressing up the loom, the creative weaving process and his inspirations. Roy will also demonstrate some of the processes of preparing the wool. He will offer an array of examples of weavings that he draws inspirations from, some of which belong to his family collection, as well as a couple of the completed weavings of his current works that will be available for sale, among other things as vegetal dyes yarns, and other fiber arts that he makes.

Roy Kady is a Diné (Navajo) artist and shepherd known for his expertise in traditional weaving and sheep herding. He has dedicated his life to preserving and sharing his cultural heritage through his work with the Kady Youth Sheep Camp Apprenticeship program, his art, which reflects the landscapes and stories of his upbringing in Goats Spring, Arizona, on the outskirts of Teec Nos Pos.
