About this Event

Exploring over 400 years of literature from the Sheridan Libraries Special Collections, A Musical Odyssey will trace the historical intersections between music and the written word.

From Goethe’s evil Fairy King and Shakespeare to modern interpretations of Sappho and mysterious manuscripts by Edgar Allan Poe, soprano Teresa Ferrara and pianist Allison Freeman will explore the fascinating ways in which music and text have interacted throughout history.

Rare editions of works by Emily Dickinson, Oscar Wilde, and Edgar Allan Poe will also be on display for one afternoon only!

This performance is presented in conjunction with the special exhibition Grace Notes in American History: 200 Years of Songs from the Lester Levy Sheet Music Collection, on view through July 31, 2022, at the George Peabody Library.
