A Month of Queer Resistance Cinema: Pride (2014)
🏳️‍🌈 Pride Month at TicTic - Celebrating Queer Cinema 🏳️‍⚧️
🗓 Thursday, June 25 | ⏰ Doors: 6PM | 🎬 Film: 8PM | 📍 TicTic, Phnom Penh
Directed by Matthew Warchus, Pride tells the true story of the alliance formed between LGBTQ+ activists and striking Welsh miners during the UK miners’ strike of 1984–85. Beginning with a small group collecting donations for mining communities during London Pride, the film follows the gradual development of solidarity between two groups initially divided by geography, class, culture, and prejudice.
Balancing political history with humour and warmth, the film explores collective action, mutual support, and the unexpected relationships that emerge through shared struggle. Rather than treating activism as symbolic, Pride focuses on practical solidarity and the importance of coalition-building during moments of political hostility. As part of TicTic’s Pride Month celebration of queer resistance cinema, the film remains one of the most uplifting and politically resonant portrayals of queer activism in contemporary British cinema.
“An enormously crowd-pleasing story of solidarity and resistance.”
— The Guardian
“Funny, moving and politically sharp.”
— Roger Ebert
