“Full of loss and unrequited love, but with a surreal and occasionally snappy humour . . . The whole thing feels like watching a silent movie in which every aspect has been created by a wayward child genius.” The Guardian
“A Million Tiny Ants” is a new collection of songs and stories from artist Matthew Robins. Matthew lives in a remote fishing village in West Cornwall where he makes shadow puppets and writes songs, and combines them to tell stories about animals, monsters, the sea, love, and death. Joined on-stage by puppeteer Tim Spooner, this home-made variety show features the further shadow-puppet adventures of regular characters Flyboy and Mothboy, as well as some new characters. There will be made-up games, jokes about skeletons, songs about sausages, and (possibly) a million tiny ants. “It’s home-made folklore,” says Matthew. “My work is a pre-internet patchwork of inspirations - Tintin and Sesame Street, Billy Connolly and Bette Midler, Garrison Keillor on the radio.” The show is funny and sad, there will be no swearing and no politics, and the show is suitable for adults and older children.
