🖼️ Born in Laredo, Texas, Barbara Cigarroa graduated from Harvard and pursued her passions in art, writing, and the law, drawing from her family legacy and values throughout her journey, as well as from inspiring art pieces she loved, including two Tom Lea paintings.
🏥 As a child, she would walk through the Cigarroa Medical Clinic, where Tom Lea’s print of Cabeza de Vaca, framed at the entrance, left a lasting impression.
👩⚖️ At the inception of her immigration career—starting as a DOJ trial attorney and culminating in her work as a federal immigration judge —she would pass his mural, Pass of the North.
📚 Join us as she discusses her book, A Mexican Dream and Other Compositions, containing lessons in life, her artwork exploring the migratory experience in its beauty and complexity, and how the creative arts can shape purpose, memory, and moral direction.
