A Literary and Musical Evening with Dr. Samantha Ege
Join us for a special evening with acclaimed pianist and musicologist Dr. Samantha Ege as she shares insights from her latest book, which highlights the groundbreaking contributions of Black women who shaped Chicago’s South Side into a thriving center for classical music. In addition to the book discussion, Dr. Ege will perform selections that bring this rich history to life.
This event is presented in partnership with the Seminary Co-op Bookstore and the University of Chicago Library Community Engagement team. Light refreshments will be provided.

More about the author:
Samantha Ege is a musicologist, pianist, and senior research fellow at the University of Southampton. She is the author of and coeditor of The Cambridge Companion to Florence B. Price. Her albums feature world premiere recordings of music by Florence Price, Margaret Bonds, Helen Hagan, and Undine Smith Moore. Her next album features the world premiere recording of Julia Perry's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in Two Speeds with Lontano Orchestra. And next year she will be making the world premiere of Avril Coleridge-Taylor's Piano Concerto in F minor with the BBC Philharmonic.
