An evening of performance and stories with GRAMMY-nominated percussionist Professor Justin DeHart.
Professor Justin DeHart draws on a life spent exploring music through instruments, people and places. Live performances will be interwoven with stories and reflections on music that has shaped his journey as a performer, teacher and researcher.
Rather than a traditional lecture, the event offers an informal journey through the extraordinarily diverse world of percussion, exploring connections between sound, culture, creativity and community. Designed for a general audience, no specialist musical knowledge is required.
Professor Justin DeHart is recognised for his versatility across contemporary classical, popular, electronic and global music traditions. He appears on over 100 recordings spanning solo, chamber and collaborative projects, with a performance and research practice shaped by music from the United States, Europe, Aotearoa New Zealand and Asia. At the University of Canterbury, his teaching and ensemble leadership include percussion ensemble, tabla and Balinese gamelan.
This talk is free, but bookings are essential.
