A Life Across Disciplines: Celebrating Mike Hooves

Mike Hooves believed that art could be generous, playful, and deeply connected to the people around us. Their practice moved fluidly across murals, illustration, film, animation, installation, and drag performance, leaving an immeasurable impact on Calgary's cultural landscape. This special gathering brings together friends, collaborators, and fellow artists from the many communities Mike helped shape to share stories, reflect on their own practices, and celebrate the relationships that defined Mike's life.

The conversation will be followed by a retrospective featuring selections from Mike's films, artworks, animations, and public projects. Free and open to all, we welcome friends, collaborators, neighbours, and anyone wishing to learn more about an artist whose generosity and imagination will continue to ripple throughout this city for years to come.

This is a special gathering taking place during the 2026 BUMP Urban Art Conference. This gathering is free to attend, please RSVP so we can ensure there is enough space for everyone.
