A suite of choreographed dances inspired by the art and cultural traditions of the indigenous people of Mindanao – the Badjao, Maguindanao, Maranao, Tausug. Using janggay (metallic fingernail extensions), fans, silk scarves, and malong (woven tubular apparel), dancers will interpret the movements of ocean waves, native birds, native trees, and martial art forms into graceful dances. These dances will be accompanied by sound of an agong (big, bossed gong), d’bakan (goblet-headed drum), and other instruments of the Southern Philippines.

Mindanao is the second largest island in the Philippines. Located in the southern region of the archipelago, the island is part of an island group that includes the adjacent islands of the Sulu archipelago.
