The Filipino Ministry of the Archdiocese of San Francisco is gearing up for the celebration of the quincentennial anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines. Preparations are underway for the celebration of the historic milestone with the first event to kick off on Saturday, July 31. The first event features a hybrid conference (part in-person, part virtual) to be held at St. Mary's Cathedral. The conference will be followed by a Thanksgiving-Concelebrated Mass.
Prominent Filipino Catholic leaders were invited to speak on the "Gifted to Give" theme that will highlight the Filipinos' Journey of Faith and their missionary role in the new era of evangelization. The speakers are: Bishop Oscar Solis, the first Filipino-American bishop in the United States and bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City; Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, bishop of the Diocese of Kalookan (Philippines) and Vice President of CBCP; Father Ricky Manalo, a prominent author and composer; and Chris Mariano, director of Youth and Young Adults Ministry in the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
