A Gullah Good Time

Piccolo is proud to welcome back, on the eve of the Piccolo Finale, a powerful concert by the Gullah Collective, a nine- piece band that percussionist, drummer and producer Calvin “CL” Baxter II founded to preserve and promote the sounds of the Gullah Geechee culture. The band blends jazz, roots, R&B, and gospel in performances rooted in the rich musical traditions of the Lowcountry to honor the deep West African rhythms and storytelling that define Gullah music. Rochelle Riley, Director of Cultural Affairs for the City, said their recent concert during the Charleston Jazz Festival, was one of the best she’d ever witnessed. Registration for this FREE concert is required for this event, which is co-sponsored for the first time by Piccolo Spoleto and Spoleto USA.
