About this Event

Sketch-Evening: A guided sketching session with Devina Kirloskar.

Sharpen your pencils and join us for a relaxed evening of creativity along the False Creek seawall! SOSA Vancouver invites you to Urban Sketching, a guided urban sketching event set against one of today’s most scenic backdrops in Vancouver, the Science World.

Whether you're a seasoned sketcher or have never picked up a pencil, it doesn't matter. This is for anyone who wants to be guided through the process and enjoy some outdoor sketching. Surrounded by the waterfront, the city skyline, and good company, you'll spend the evening capturing the world around you while connecting with fellow design enthusiasts and creatives in the community.

We'll provide everything you need to get started, sketchbooks, pencils, pens, and more, so all you must bring is your curiosity. At its heart, Urban Sketching is about slowing down, observing, and finding joy in the simple act of drawing. Just come as you are and let's create together.

After sketching, those who wish to stay back are welcome to join us for some socializing and networking nearby.

GUEST PANELISTS
Devina Kirloskar

Devina has always been drawing since she was a child and learned watercolours in the traditional sense while still in school. During architecture school, she was introduced to pen-and-ink sketching. Over the years, although her sketching habit has been sporadic, she developed a style that connects both of these techniques. Once she found the wonderful community of Urban Sketchers Vancouver in 2022 and, through it, was introduced to the global movement, she has been consistently sketching both by herself and as part of the community ever since.

She is currently a chapter admin of the 3,000-member-strong community in Vancouver and has hosted more than 30 meetups in and around Vancouver. On behalf of USK Vancouver, she was part of the team that was instrumental in organising international workshops on Granville Island, where they welcomed more than 100 participants and hosted guest artists to lead workshops, sketch walks, and Artist talks during a three-day event for two consecutive years.

She truly believes that sketching has given her a way of slowing time down and appreciating the moment, whether it's with her family, by herself, or simply by observing everyday life for a little while each day. It also gives her a welcome break from her screen.

Note: In the event of rain, we'll move indoors to a nearby location. Registered participants will be notified by email the day before if the location changes.
