This October, the vibrant heart of Tucson’s arts scene will come alive with A Gorgeous Excitement, a landmark group exhibition featuring 27 of Southern Arizona’s most accomplished and inspiring visual artists. Curated by noted art book publisher, collector, and regional arts advocate Paul Gold, the exhibition serves as a powerful tribute to Tucson’s artistic community at a time when national arts funding faces uncertainty.
“This exhibit is a love letter to Tucson’s artists and art lovers,” says Gold. “In challenging times, it’s crucial to spotlight the talent and resilience of our creative community.”
The title, A Gorgeous Excitement, reflects the energy, depth, and diversity of Tucson’s art scene, the spirit of this eclectic, electrifying collection of contemporary works.

A Gorgeous Excitement – Our Story
Tucson is home to a remarkable number of talented artists, but the opportunities to show work have grown fewer. Gallery closures, cuts in NEA funding, shifting trends toward online sales, and overall economic caution have made it harder for artists to connect with collectors and audiences in person. So what could be done?
That question was at the center of a conversation between Janny Taylor, Deborah Gillis, and Tucson art promoter Paul Gold as they sat together in the Steinfeld Warehouse Gallery. Surrounded by exposed brick, creaky floors, and the steady sound of passing freight trains, they started brainstorming. As the new Co-directors of Steinfeld Gallery, Janny and Deborah wanted to bring fresh energy to the space, and with Paul’s deep knowledge of the local art scene, the ideas quickly came together. They agreed: it was time for a dynamic, high-profile show that celebrated some of the most dedicated and seasoned of Tucson’s artists.
The result is A Gorgeous Excitement, curated by Paul Gold—an exciting group exhibition featuring twenty-seven artists working in a variety of mediums, hosted at the Steinfeld Warehouse Community Arts Center and sponsored by the Warehouse Arts Management Organization (WAMO).
