About this Event
Although most Americans have heard of sugar plums thanks to the famous holiday poem A Visit from St. Nicholas by Clement Clarke Moore, many have likely never have had the pleasure of tasting one of these luxuries, or even know what they really are (hint: they are not sugar-dusted plums). Visit Staatsburgh State Historic Site and hear cookbook author Becky Diamond provide interesting historical notes and culinary history that inspired her latest book, A Gilded Age Christmas. In her book, Ms. Diamond translates holiday recipes from an earlier era for the modern cook. The talk will take place in the lavishly decorated historic dining room of Staatsburgh. Ms. Diamond will sign copies of her book which is available in the site’s giftshop; a reception with the author will include tastings of two cookie recipes from the book.

Her most recent book, The Gilded Age Cookbook, blends Gilded Age details and celebrity stories with historic menus and recipes updated for modern kitchens.
