Mark Bevir is Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. He is one of the most influential theorists working at the intersection of political theory, interpretive social science, and the history of ideas. He has spent his career unpacking the idea of governance.
His landmark works, including Democratic Governance (Princeton, 2010), A Theory of Governance (UC Press, 2013), and Governance: A Very Short Introduction(Oxford, 2012), have fundamentally challenged accounts of the state.
In this lecture, Bevir will offer a genealogical account of governance, tracing how its dominant rationalities and forms have emerged, shifted, and been contested across time.
