A DIFFERENT THREAD
British-Americana troubadours A Different Thread create a richly emotive tapestry of transatlantic folk.
Lead singers Robert Jackson (Midlands, UK) and Alicia Best (North Carolina) first met busking in Ireland. Their chance encounter sparked a musical journey that has spanned over nine years, a dozen countries, and three studio albums—capturing the love of two folk singers chasing their dreams on the road.
Their original songs weave Celtic balladry and Appalachian blues, featuring fiddle, harmonica, and an abundance of honeyed harmonies. Following in the footsteps of Johnny Cash and June Carter, Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, and Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, A Different Thread’s unique sound has earned them acclaim for their powerful storytelling and moving live performances. They have garnered support slots with the likes of The Milk Carton Kids, Native Harrow, and Jody Stephens (Big Star), as well as features with NPR and the BBC.
Their third album, Over Again (Sep 2025), is an ode to new beginnings and working towards a brighter future. Written around the solar eclipse, it sees the band exploring new sonic territory, mixing electric guitars with dulcimers, gospel-esque backing vocals with honky-tonk fiddle. Echoes of Old Crow, R.E.M., Joni Mitchell, and John Prine ripple through its tracks, creating a potent, soul-soothing mix that will leave you wanting to play it all over again.

HOW TO JOIN US
You never need a ticket or a reservation to attend one of our concerts -- just show up. If we had a gate, it would open at 5pm. Feel free to show up earlier than that, even, if you just want to enjoy the weather, have a picnic, or just hang out. The show will start at 6pm or shortly thereafter.
Doodad Farm never charges for entry to concerts, though we do request that those who are able (and you know who you are) donate at the stage area. Every penny of your donations goes straight to the performers. We think $20 per person is a reasonable donation for this show. As always, we ask that you surprise yourself with your own generosity to support our performers. There will also be albums and other merch available, and that's a great way to show your appreciation for these talented musicians.
OTHER DETAILS:
• Kids, dogs, and all your friends are always welcome. Doodad Farm is a safe place for everyone.
• Please bring CASH for your donation to the performers and for merch purchases. Other options will be available, but cash is easiest.
• Please park in the field reasonably close to the next vehicle.
• This is an outside, farm-like setting (thus the name). Dress like you’re going camping and you’ll be fine.
• We never allow weapons of any sort at the farm. If you think you need to protect yourself, you’re in the wrong place.
• Bring your own beverages, and consume them responsibly. Of course snacks and picnics are welcome.
• If you’re a sitter, bring a chair. We have some extras if you forget.
• Smoking is permitted as long as you don’t bother anyone or do any butt-dropping.
