About this Event

Join Khmer American artist, educator, scholar, and LGBTQ+ activist Prumsodun Ok for the world premiere of A Deepest Blue, which follows an aging artist through the primordial depths of the ocean. This will be the final performance by Prum, who came into his own as an artist as a young student at the San Francisco Art Institute and in the small art spaces and theaters of the city's Mission District. He would later go on to become a TED Fellow and Speaker, and to found Cambodia's first gay dance company which has been celebrated as "Radical Beauty" (The Bangkok Post, Thailand) and as "one of the most revolutionary dance troupes in Cambodia . . . a dance troupe like no other" (Channel NewsAsia, Singapore). Prum will be joined by stellar guest artists from Japan including gagaku musicians Ota Yutaka, Kunimoto Yoshie, and Fumiya Otonashi, as well as Venerable Nuiya Toshiya of Shogakuin Temple in his artistic debut.

A Deepest Blue is made possible in partnership with the Center for Empowering Refugees and Immigrants and ARTogether, and is generously supported by Hewlett 50 Arts Commissions, Creative Capital, New England Foundation for the Arts - National Dance Project, MAP Fund, Kenneth Rainin Foundation, and National Endowment for the Arts.
