About this Event

Detroit is Different will be screening "A Debt Owed, Not a Handout: History of Detroiters in the Reparations Movement." This special Juneteenth event will take place on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 6 PM. The interactive screening will allow Detroit residents to explore the narratives of esteemed figures such as The Honorable John Conyers, Reparations Ray Jenkins, and The Honorable Rev. Dr. JoAnn Watson. The video essay delves into the harrowing experiences of Black Americans throughout history. Produced by Khary Frazier, the film employs editing, cinematography, sampling, and animations to craft a compelling narrative.


Following the screening, there will be a discussion about the organizing, planning, and strategy towards the Reparations Movement.


You're welcome to join Detroit is Different to celebrate Juneteenth. This is a free community event where testimonies will be filmed, and data will be collected.
