About this Event
Founded in 1989 by a group of artists, Day With(out) Art is an international day of action and awareness in response to the AIDS crisis. The program will include the removal of five works of art from the museum’s walls, alongside a film screening of shorts commissioned by Visual AIDS in the McEvoy Auditorium. Attendees can join curator-led walking tours of the exhibition or interact with gallery educators and specific pieces in the galleries. The Kogod Courtyard will host art activities, a table from Whitman Walker Health, an oral history listening station and the DC Public Library Book Bike. Additionally, Whitman Walker mobile clinics and the American University Humanities Truck will be parked outside the museum on G Street.
The Portrait Gallery strives to provide programs that are accessible to all visitors. If you have questions about the accessibility of this program, or if you would like to request real-time captioning (CART), sign language interpretation, or any other accommodations, please contact [email protected]. Two weeks' advance notice is appreciated for requesting accommodations.
