As I begin this new chapter in my life as an author, I cannot move forward without pausing to look back—back to the roots, the voices, the hands that shaped me.
Prof. Kofi Awoonor was not just my teacher.
He was my literary father.
A bold voice, a fearless soul, a master of African storytelling whose words still echo in the corridors of our collective memory.
He passed in the most painful way, on 21st September, 12 years ago, in a land far from home.
And yet, through that loss, his legacy only grew louder.
Today, I write because he first believed I could.
I speak because he first taught me to listen to the rhythms of our stories.
I honour him now, not only with my pen, but with my purpose.
This is a call to anyone who has ever been shaped by a teacher, a mentor, a quiet force behind your greatness.

Let’s meet as one people—at a vigil of memory and meaning—to celebrate our heritage, culture, and heroes.
