‘Day In The Country’ – a 2015 award-winning movie - tells the story of two young Cambodians whose parents attempt to fix their ‘Arranged Marriage’. This multi-stranded film spotlights a dilemma still relevant today – should young Khmers, looking to marry, bow to their parents’ wishes in the centuries-old tradition? Or should they resist and seek to make their own choices? Two talented actors, Sambath Yim and Sophanika Chan, brilliantly portray ‘Sovann’ and ‘Chantha’ on the day that they first meet - a few hours of togetherness on which their future happiness hangs. Through the portrayal of the couple’s inner feelings and conflicts, the movie poses many questions while allowing audiences to come to their own conclusions about this thorny social issue.
‘Day In The Country’ is produced by KMF (Khmer Mekong Films), a leading Phnom Penh production company. Writer-director Matthew Robinson will hold a Q&A session following the screening.
