Sam Urquidez (Outreach Biologist Asst. - Indiana, International Crane Foundation) will provide an overview of the two crane species that are found in Indiana (sandhill & whooping cranes) including identification characteristics, life histories, cultural and historic population trends, and how citizens can help protect these birds. An introduction to the world’s 15 crane species and their cultural importance will also be shared, followed by a brief tracking activity (outdoors) to demonstrate how whooping crane movements are monitored in Indiana. NOTE: Cash donations will be greatly appreciated to defray the costs of this presentation and support the International Crane Foundation.
