A Creative Afternoon: Sew Your Own Padded Laptop Sleeve

We spend so much of our lives on our devices. This is a chance to step away from the screen and use your hands to create something for it instead. We’re not aiming for factory perfection; we’re aiming for the satisfaction of saying, "I actually made this." It’s about slowing down, learning a life skill, and enjoying a bit of "productive quiet" in a busy week.

By the time we finish and clear the threads away, you’ll have a finished, padded sleeve that fits your laptop like a glove. Along the way, you’ll pick up the "big" skills:

• The Machine: How to actually set up and talk to a sewing machine so it does what you want.
• The Fit: How to measure your device (laptop, tablet, or e-reader) for a custom fit.
• The "Secret" Zip: I’ll show you my favourite trick for sewing a zipper that looks professional and actually glides smoothly.
• The Protection: Learning how to layer fabrics with protective foam so your tech stays safe.

You don’t need to go on a stressful craft-store run before you arrive. I’ve gathered everything you need to make something you’ll be proud to carry:

• All the Good Stuff: A selection of beautiful fabrics, soft linings, and high-quality protective foam that actually does the job.
• The Tools: You’ll have your own modern sewing machine to use and all the little notions (scissors, pins, thread) ready at your station.
• The Comforts: It wouldn’t be a creative afternoon without treats. I’ll have plenty of tea, coffee, and some of my favourite local snacks to keep us going.

This is a tiny group—just 4 people. It’s not a formal classroom; it’s a space to ask questions, chat, and take your time. If you mess up a stitch, we’ll unpick it and try again.

• What to bring: Just yourself! You’re welcome to bring a copy of your laptop or tablet measurements so we can measure it exactly, or bring the dimensions.

We are located at 39 High Bridge, Newcastle City Centre (NE1 1EW).

• Walking: We’re just a few minutes' walk from Grey Street or a 5-minute walk from Monument Metro.
• Parking: The nearest parking is at Dean Street Car Park (a 3-minute walk) or Manors Car Park.
• Entry: When you arrive, head into the alleyway where you will see a white door. The buzzer is currently being shy, so please send a quick text to 07453 480080 when you're outside, and I’ll come down to let you in!
