About this Event
The fragility of our American democracy has become more clear over the last 10 years. At the same time, quality local journalism has been in flux and often in peril. These realities are scary, and also there’s real hope. There is a path for a future of local news that strengthens democracy and broadens who’s represented in – and who gets to be a part of creating – the narratives we tell ourselves and one another. Spoiler alert: it centers young people and higher education institutions.
Resolve Philly is pleased to invite you to a conversation on the intersection of local journalism, democracy and young people eager to build new narratives. The gathering will feature University of Pennsylvania Provost John L. Jackson, Jr. as special guest, in conversation with David W. Brown, Assistant Dean of Community and Communication and co-Chair of Resolve’s Board of Directors. The two will discuss how they see their students engaging with media and content and the importance of investment in quality news and information, especially for communities in need, in this era of mis and dis information.
Please join us for the intimate discussion. Members of the Resolve Philly team will be present to provide input and perspective on the ways that we are enabling young people to have valuable working experience in the promising future of local news: journalism that is community-engaged, solutions-focused and collaborative. Please kindly RSVP before September 26, 2024. If you have any questions, please contact Lee Whack at [email protected].
