The rapid rise of Van Diemen’s Band, since being founded by Julia Fredersdorff in 2016, has established Van Diemen’s Band as one of the state’s leading cultural organisations. Van Diemen's Band's performances are wonderful and so beautifully presented and introduced by Julia that they awaken an interest and regard for early music and the amazing instruments, that has produced a growing and loyal audience. Tasmania is fortunate to have the early music specialist Julia Fredersdorff living in Tasmania; Julia will share highlights of her international performance and recording career: from membership of the finest ensembles in Europe, such as: Les Talens Lyriques, Le Parlement de Musique, Aurora Ensemble and Bach Concentus, to her role as Artistic Director of the Annual Peninsula Summer Music Festival on the Mornington Peninsula. Julia has toured throughout Australia and New Zealand, and in Europe from Reykjavik to Wroclaw, and Madeira to Venice. Julia has participated in forty international recordings for BIS, Deutsche Grammophon, Erato, Vexations840, ABC Classic and many more.
Julia became an official nipaluna/Hobart resident in 2013, enthusiastically embracing fresh mountain air and even fresher Tasmanian produce, and enjoys walking along the Pipeline Track with her husband Christopher Lawrence, their cocker spaniel and two young children.
