About this Event
Illinois Tech, the Monarch Awards Foundation of Xi Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Rotary Club International District 6450 present an intimate conversation with Dawn Turner, author of Three Girls from Bronzeville--A Uniquely American Memoir of Race, Fate, and Sisterhood on Monday February 21, 2022 at Hermann Hall (3241 S. Federal Street), 6pm. Three Girls from Bronzeville is a “beautiful, tragic, and inspiring” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) memoir about three Black girls from the storied Bronzeville section of Chicago that offers a penetrating exploration of race, opportunity, friendship, sisterhood, and the powerful forces at work that allow some to flourish…and others to falter.
The conversation will be moderated by Lee Bey. Bey is a Chicago-based photographer, writer, lecturer and consultant. His work documents and interprets built environments and the political, social and racial forces that shape spaces and places.
Books are available for purchase at Semicolon Bookstore & Gallery and a discount is applied for online purchases. Books will also be available onsite.
Parking is adjacent to Hermann Hall (see map) and doors open at 5pm. The university requires that masks or face coverings are worn regardless of vaccination status and they must cover the mouth and nose.
ASL is provided.
